Life is very different when there are no humans around. For most of his life, Kowaru had varied between opinions about what should be done with his own self and his own will. He had never even learned that 'will' existed until he was 12. He did not learn that he could employ it for himself until he was 14. And then he died.

He's alive now. He's alive, due to the same boy who'd brought about his death. But it was likely that far more of Shinji died that day than of Tabrisadamkaworu. It was something to make up for, now. He can apply his free will for this.

The first thing to do would be to gather provisions. He had left around two hours ago, when Shinji was asleep, to trek up that broken and bent highway in an attempt to find something usable. He found enough to pass them for now. What he has to hope is that Shinji had not woken up in his absence.

He does not even bother with the long or safe way to get back - he haphazardly makes his way down the hill nearby; slipping and sliding and falling at the end, but a few cuts and scrapes do not matter to him. And ah, he makes it back soon enough - but what will he have to deal with?

Shinji looks up again, blinks, then slowly stands. He reaches out his hand hesitantly, as if afraid that his touch is going to make Kaworu disappear or that hes about to be hurt. He nods once, slowly.

"...ok."

Well, look at that. Kaworu takes Shinji's hand in his, he even interlaces their fingers together and there is no hurt at all, is there?

"Okay," he says, eyesight traveling over both the near and the distance. "This ought to turn into a more industrial area soon enough."

No, one at all. Although Shinji is blushing again.

"...shouldn't we be looking for an apartment? Or a house?"

Not that he remembered many houses around Tokyo-3, but still. It would be more spacious. Why was he thinking about space? They had the whole world.

"I am watching for those as well," Kaworu answers easily. "You need not worry yet, Shinji."

But instead of noticing a residence he notices his companion's state first, as if a blush was easy to miss. "For your own part, you ought to just make sure you do not burn anything down with those cheeks of yours."

That just makes Shinji blush even more and he drops his head, muttering an apology. He's still very easily embarrassed, you see.

Kaworu chuckles just a little, offering Shinji a comforting smile. "I suppose I should ask what this is all about." His tone is querying, perhaps concerned as if he does not know already.

That just makes Shinji even more embarrassed and he mutters a reply, "N-nothing. It's nothing. Don't worry about it, Kaworu."

Still, he's alive. Which is better then nothing.

"Well, alright," Kaworu says. Apparently he is letting Shinji off the hook, which is never actually a good thing. "In any case, we ought to keep looking."

"Yeah... there has to be something around here, right?"

He glances around, heaving a small sigh of disappointment. He still wasn't sure if he should even be here.

"Are you still on the verge of an introspective path on your own existence?"

Of course, yes, completely.

"You are here because you are here. If that does not mean something to you, then make it mean something."

There is a residence over there, a house, finally. Kaworu drags Shinji in the nearest door, closing it quite firmly.He pushes the other against it then, keeping him in place with a hand on his chest.

"For now, that means to find a cursory existence, one that has definition to both you and I. Later, there will be others. You can think more about it then."

As if Kaworu plans to let him.

"No! ...b-but..."

Shinji finds himself dragged (rather unresisting) a few moments later. He stumbles along behind Kaworu and then he's up against a door. He swallows nervously and shrugs.

"I... think I can do that. If you want me to."

"Say it with a promise, Ikari," Kaworu says. "Bind it so that you cannot go against it later because you only 'thought' it.

"I-if you want me to, I will."

He doesn't want to make this decision.

Kaworu will make the decision for him, if he has to. If he is outside of the heart rather than in, then this is where he is needed to be. Physical surface with physical ideas; deciding things through that were a lot different than in the Instrumentality.

"I am going to ask you every day if you have decided to want for yourself. Until then, you put responsibility for your actions in my hands." Oh, but is that necessarily a smart idea?

"We'll match blood, decide it with a blood bond." Well, nobody could be killed for that idea, could they? Not anymore. There had to be a sharp implement somewhere as well, to assist, in a once populated house.

"Then," Kaworu says, placing his other hand on the door and looking straight into Shinji's eyes, "It is absolutely unbreakable."

"A... a blood bond? Why?"

Shinji looks a bit horrified, "I mean... I don't think that's such a good idea! There's no doctors or anything and if something goes wrong one of us could get hurt and..."

Yeah, Shinji doesn't like that idea.

Of course Shinji does not like the idea. Kaworu had known he wouldn't. Why else would he suggest it at this point and time? "Well," he says, a smile twitching at his lips as he backs off and looks further into the house. "You could always make your own decision not to do this..."

Shinji looks down and away, "I... really... don't think we should, Kaworu. I really don't."

This is his way of saying, "Let's not and say we did."

"Well, there must be some way to seal a pact," Kaworu says. "Whatever did you do as a child?"
